The Story Behind Hammonds Visions Inc.
By Ivory Hammonds Founder & CEO, Hammonds Visions Inc.
I still remember sitting in my room back in 2012 with the radio playing in the background. Song after song came on, and while the artists were different, everything felt the same. The creativity that first made me fall in love with music felt like it was disappearing. So I did what many music lovers do when they're searching for something different. I opened YouTube, and that decision changed my life.
The deeper I explored the underground music scene, the more incredible artists I discovered. These weren't artists backed by major labels or million-dollar marketing budgets. They were talented, passionate creators making incredible music with very little recognition. As an aspiring independent artist myself, I couldn't understand why so many gifted musicians continued to be overlooked and under-booked. I attended local showcases, community events, and underground performances, and every weekend I walked away asking myself the same question: How are these artists not being discovered? Eventually, I stopped asking the question. I decided to become part of the answer, and that's when Bars Nation Entertainment was born.
At fourteen years old, I wasn't a businesswoman. I was simply a teenager with a vision. I had no investors, no office, no road-map, and certainly no money. What I did have was an idea and an overwhelming desire to create opportunities for artists who deserved to be seen. Bars Nation Entertainment wasn't created to chase popularity. It was created to build a platform where independent artists could receive fair exposure, connect with one another, and continue growing without feeling invisible. Looking back, I realize I was unknowingly building something much bigger than a music platform. I was learning entrepreneurship.
Like many first businesses, Bars Nation Entertainment went through several different identities over the years. It started as a movement, evolved into a group, became a duo, and eventually returned to the original mission that inspired me in the first place: helping independent artists grow. That decision changed everything.
Running the company alone wasn't easy. There were nights I questioned whether I was capable of doing it. I had to teach myself everything from website development, search engine optimization (SEO), and mobile optimization to marketing, Instagram algorithms, brand strategy, networking, and content creation. Every skill I possess today was learned because I refused to let a lack of knowledge become an excuse. Little by little, the work began paying off. Bars Nation Entertainment eventually grew to over 10,000 followers, generated hundreds of thousands of global impressions, launched a curated Spotify playlist that introduced listeners to new independent artists, and created a platform where musicians from around the world could submit music and receive honest, respectful feedback. That was always the goal: to create a safe space where artists could discover one another, build relationships, and grow together.
Of course, business isn't a straight line. Not every idea becomes a success. In 2019, I launched Dynasty Estate NYC, a real estate wholesaling company focused on opportunities throughout New York City and New Jersey. Then the world changed. COVID-19 arrived, and like countless entrepreneurs, I watched my plans shift almost overnight. Eventually, I made the difficult decision to walk away from the business. At first, it felt like failure. Today, I recognize it as wisdom. One of the most valuable lessons entrepreneurship teaches you is knowing when to keep fighting and when it's time to pivot. Not every business is meant to become your life's work, and that's okay.
Then, in 2022, another vision began forming. The media landscape had completely transformed. Podcasts were becoming global platforms. Short-form content was dominating attention. Reels had changed how audiences consumed media, and creators were building entire networks instead of individual brands. I realized Bars Nation Entertainment needed more than a redesign. It needed a reinvention.
Around that same time, I revisited an interview featuring Dame Dash on The Breakfast Club. One sentence stopped me in my tracks: "I hustle for my last name, not my first." Those words stayed with me. They reminded me of conversations I used to have with my late father, an incredibly talented musician who constantly emphasized the importance of our family name. He always spoke about legacy, about building something that would outlive us, and about making the name Hammonds represent excellence. Years later, everything finally clicked. I wasn't meant to build just one company. I was meant to build a foundation.
That realization became Hammonds Visions Inc. Not simply another business, but a holding company. A home for every company, every future investment, every brand, and every vision that shares one purpose. Today, Bars Nation Entertainment proudly operates under Hammonds Visions Inc., alongside the businesses that will follow in the years ahead. Some will be in media. Some will have nothing to do with music. Some will focus on branding, while others will focus on finance, investment, and creating long-term equity. The vision became bigger than one industry. It became about building a lasting legacy.
Looking back over the past thirteen years, two lessons stand above all the rest. The first is simple: surround yourself with people who know more than you. Never let your ego become larger than your willingness to learn. The smartest entrepreneurs aren't the ones who know everything. They're the ones who never stop asking questions. The second lesson is one word: scale. Building one successful project is an accomplishment. Building systems that allow multiple businesses to grow simultaneously is transformational. Companies like Amazon, Apple, and the Dangote Group weren't built overnight. They were built one decision, one investment, and one scalable system at a time. That lesson forever changed the way I think about entrepreneurship.
That's exactly why Hammonds Visions Inc. exists today. Every service we offer was designed to solve a problem I once experienced myself. Brand development, website design, website management, strategy, marketing, business consulting, and long-term business guidance aren't services we added because they were trendy. They're services I wish I had when I was fourteen years old trying to figure everything out on my own. Most importantly, we believe these resources should be accessible. You don't need hundreds of thousands of dollars to build a meaningful brand because I certainly didn't. I started with a vision, determination, and the willingness to learn. Thirteen years later, that vision is still growing.
As I look toward the future of Hammonds Visions Inc., I feel the same excitement I felt back in 2012. The mission has evolved. The companies have expanded. The vision has become clearer. But the purpose remains exactly the same: to create, to inspire, to build, and to leave something meaningful behind. If there's one thing I hope you take away from my story, it's this: Never underestimate what a single idea can become when it's paired with consistency, curiosity, and the courage to keep going. Our visions really do come true. Thank you for taking the time to read the very first edition of The Vision. The journey is only beginning, and I'm excited to have you here as we continue building businesses, sharing lessons, and turning visions into reality together.
With gratitude,
Ivory Hammonds
